01How we approach it
The screens nobody prototypes are the ones people remember.
Most design handoffs cover the populated dashboard and the successful checkout. Then engineering discovers there is no design for a brand-new account, a job that has been running for several minutes, a partially failed import, or a user whose role hides half the navigation — and those get invented at implementation time, inconsistently.
Because we build what we design, we design against the actual data model. Empty, loading, partial, denied and failed states are part of the deliverable, not a follow-up ticket.
